What is GPA Calculator?
A GPA Calculator is a free online tool that computes your Grade Point Average on the standard U.S. 4.0 scale. You enter each course’s credit hours and letter grade, and the tool calculates a credit-weighted average — the same method universities use for transcripts, academic standing, scholarships, and Latin honors. This calculator also lets you combine a current semester with prior credits to project your true cumulative GPA. Everything runs in your browser, so your grades stay private.
Key Benefits
- Credit-weighted math that matches official transcript GPA
- Full A+ to F scale including plus and minus grades
- Projects cumulative GPA from prior credits earned
- Automatic Latin honors classification
- 100% client-side and private — no account or data upload
Common Use Cases
- •Checking your GPA before finals to set a target grade
- •Projecting cumulative GPA to see if you keep a scholarship
- •Estimating the grades needed to reach Latin honors
- •Comparing scenarios when retaking or dropping a course
- •Converting international grades to the U.S. 4.0 scale for applications
How to Use the GPA Calculator
- Add Your Courses: For each class, type the course name (optional), enter the credit hours, and pick the letter grade you earned or expect to earn. Click Add Course to add more rows.
- Enter Prior GPA (Optional): To project your cumulative GPA, tick "Include prior cumulative GPA" and enter your previous cumulative GPA (0.00-4.00) plus the credits you have already earned.
- Read Your GPA: The big number shows your Semester GPA (or Cumulative GPA if prior credits are included), with total credits and quality points below it.
- Check Honors and Copy: If you qualify, a Latin honors badge (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude) appears. Click Copy Result to save your GPA summary to the clipboard.
