What is JSON Graph Visualizer?
The JSON Graph Visualizer is a free browser tool that turns any JSON document into an interactive tree: collapse and expand object and array branches, read node stats at a glance, and copy JSONPath-style paths for any node.
Key Benefits
- Understand deeply nested API responses without mentally parsing raw JSON
- Collapse noise and expand only the branch you are debugging
- Copy exact node paths for tests, documentation, and jq or JSONPath queries
- Stay private: parsing runs entirely in your browser with no uploads
Common Use Cases
- β’Exploring a large API response before writing a client for it
- β’Reviewing package.json, tsconfig, or CI config structure during code review
- β’Finding unexpected nulls or mixed-type arrays in backend payloads
- β’Documenting payload shapes by exporting the tree as text
How to Use the JSON Graph Visualizer
- Paste JSON: Paste an API response, package.json, or any JSON document, or load the sample to try the tool.
- Explore the tree: Click any branch (object or array) to collapse or expand it. Use Expand all or Collapse all to jump between overview and detail.
- Inspect a node: Select a node to see its type, exact value, and JSONPath-style location with $ as the root and [index] for array elements.
- Copy the path or export: Copy the selected path for tests or queries, or download the tree as an indented text file. Everything runs in your browser.
Key Features
- Live tree that rebuilds as you type or paste JSON
- Collapsible object and array branches with per-node expand state
- Node stats: total nodes, branches, leaves, and maximum depth
- JSONPath-style paths with $ root and [index] array segments
- Text export of the whole tree for documentation and code review
Frequently Asked Questions
What do the node stats mean?
Nodes is the total count of every key and array element including the root. Branches are objects and arrays, leaves are scalar values, and max depth is how many levels deep the nesting goes.
What path format does Copy path use?
JSONPath-style paths: the document root is $, object keys join with dots (config.retries), and array elements use bracket indices (maintainers[0].name). Copy the path straight into jq-style thinking, JSONPath queries, or bug reports.
How large can my JSON be?
There is no artificial limit - parsing is native JSON.parse in your browser. Very large documents (tens of megabytes) may feel slow to re-render on every keystroke, so collapse branches while exploring them.
Is my JSON uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and rendering run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. The tool works offline once the page has loaded.
