What is Depreciation Calculator?
A depreciation calculator builds the complete depreciation schedule for a fixed asset from its cost, salvage value, and useful life. It supports the three standard book methods - straight-line, declining-balance (with automatic switch to straight-line), and sum-of-years-digits - and outputs a year-by-year table of depreciation expense, accumulated depreciation, and ending book value that you can copy or export as CSV.
Key Benefits
- Compare all three standard methods instantly
- Automatic SL switch for declining-balance schedules
- Year-by-year book value table
- CSV export for Excel and accounting systems
- No signup, fully offline and private
Common Use Cases
- β’Month-end and year-end closing schedules
- β’Budgeting replacement of equipment and vehicles
- β’Comparing methods before choosing an accounting policy

Build a Depreciation Schedule
- Enter the asset details: Type the purchase cost (e.g. 50000), the salvage value at end of life (e.g. 5000), and the useful life in years (1 to 100). Defaults of 50000, 5000, and 5 are preloaded.
- Pick a method: Choose Straight-line, Declining balance (set the factor β 2 gives double-declining), or Sum-of-years-digits; the summary cards and schedule update the moment anything changes.
- Read the schedule: Each row shows beginning book value, depreciation, accumulated depreciation, ending book value, and the rate β rows marked SL are years where declining balance switched to straight-line for a larger deduction.
- Copy or download: Use Copy for a formatted summary on your clipboard or Download CSV for depreciation-schedule-<method>.csv; Reset restores the default example.
