What is SSH Config Generator?
The SSH Config Generator is a browser-based builder for ~/.ssh/config files. Instead of memorizing option syntax, you fill in a form per server β alias, hostname, user, port, identity key, jump host, keepalives β and get a clean, valid config file you can copy or download.
Key Benefits
- Replace long ssh user@host -p 2222 -i key commands with a short alias
- Correct ProxyJump syntax for bastion-host access, generated for you
- Keepalive settings that prevent annoying idle disconnects
- Validation catches bad ports and aliases before they break your config
- Zero data collection β everything stays in your browser
Common Use Cases
- β’Developers managing several VPS, staging, and production servers
- β’DevOps teams standardizing SSH access patterns across a fleet
- β’Reaching private-network servers through a bastion or jump host
- β’Onboarding new team members with a copy-paste ready config
How to Use the SSH Config Generator
- Set global options: Optionally configure the Host * block: AddKeysToAgent, IdentitiesOnly, StrictHostKeyChecking accept-new, IPQoS, LogLevel, and HostKeyAlgorithms such as +ssh-rsa for legacy servers.
- Add your hosts: Click "Add host" for each server and fill in the alias, HostName (IP or domain), User, Port, and IdentityFile. Use ProxyJump to route through a bastion host.
- Tune keepalives: Set ServerAliveInterval (e.g. 60) and ServerAliveCountMax (e.g. 3) so idle SSH sessions are not dropped by firewalls or NAT gateways.
- Copy and apply: Copy the output or download it, save to ~/.ssh/config, then run chmod 600 ~/.ssh/config. Verify with ssh -G your-alias before connecting.
Key Features
- Unlimited host entries with alias, HostName, User, Port, and IdentityFile fields.
- ProxyJump bastion routing and per-host ForwardAgent and Compression toggles.
- ServerAliveInterval and ServerAliveCountMax keepalives that stop idle disconnects.
- Global Host * block with StrictHostKeyChecking, AddKeysToAgent, IPQoS, and LogLevel.
- Live port and alias validation with one-click copy or download of the config.
- Runs entirely in your browser β server names and key paths never leave your machine.
