How to Generate a Sudoku Puzzle
- Choose a difficulty: Pick easy, medium, hard or expert — the difficulty controls how many clues the generator digs out of the solved grid.
- Set a seed (optional): Type any seed word to make the puzzle reproducible: the same seed and difficulty always rebuild the exact same grid. Leave it blank for a random one.
- Play or check: Fill digits 1 to 9 straight into the grid on screen. Wrong entries turn red as you type, and the hint button reveals one correct cell at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every sudoku puzzle have exactly one solution?
Yes. Each time the generator removes a cell it re-runs a solver that counts solutions, and the cell only stays removed if the puzzle still has exactly one. That is what makes every grid honestly solvable by logic alone, without guessing.
What does the seed do?
The seed is a word that drives the random number generator. The same seed with the same difficulty always produces the identical puzzle, so you can share the seed and let someone else rebuild and play the exact same grid.
How hard is expert difficulty?
Expert digs the grid down to roughly 25 clues, which is the range where scanning alone rarely finishes the puzzle and you will need naked and hidden pairs, and occasionally chains. Hard stops near 29 clues and medium around 34.
Can I play on paper?
Yes. The print button produces a clean copy of the grid — including any digits you have already entered — followed by the complete solution as an answer key on the same printout.
