What is XIRR Calculator?
The XIRR Calculator finds the annualized return of dated cash flows: paste deposits and withdrawals with their dates and it solves the rate that zeroes out the present value, the same number spreadsheets call XIRR. A Newton solver with a bisection fallback handles messy real-world flows, a classic IRR cross-check isolates the effect of irregular timing, and contribution-weighted bars show which flows dominate. Totals for invested, returned, profit and duration complete the picture, all computed locally.
Key Benefits
- A true annualized, money-weighted return for irregular dates
- Newton plus bisection solving converges even on awkward flow sets
- IRR cross-check separates timing effects from performance
- Contribution chart highlights the flows that dominate the result
- Paste from any spreadsheet, no upload, no account
Common Use Cases
- •Measuring SIP or top-up mutual fund plans with monthly deposits
- •Valuing private deals, convertible notes and real exits
- •Comparing dividend streams across holding periods
- •Auditing a trading account with deposits at random dates
- •Checking the annualized return quoted in an investment report
How to Calculate XIRR
- List your flows: Paste one cash flow per line: the date, then the amount. Money you paid in is negative, money you received is positive. Comma, tab or semicolon separators all work.
- Check the totals: The calculator sums your invested and returned amounts, the net profit and the number of days between the first and last flow, so you can sanity-check the input.
- Read the XIRR: The big number is the annualized money-weighted return that makes the present value of all flows zero — the same figure as the XIRR function in spreadsheets.
- Compare with IRR: The IRR cross-check assumes the same amounts arrive in yearly steps. The gap between the two numbers shows how much your real timing helped or hurt.
