What is Slack Export Viewer?
Slack Export Viewer is an offline reader for Slack workspace data exports. Paste the JSON files from your Slack export archive and get an instant, searchable view of every message - with per-channel and per-member statistics, thread tracking, and a daily activity chart. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Key Benefits
- Nothing to install and nothing uploaded - works from any browser, even offline
- Finds old decisions, links, and files in seconds with full-text search
- Understands real-world exports: NDJSON lines, nested dumps, and missing users.json
- Clean text or JSON export for archiving, reporting, or feeding other tools
Common Use Cases
- β’Back up and search conversation history before leaving a workspace
- β’Compliance and HR reviews of exported workspace data
- β’Analyzing team activity: busiest channels, top contributors, quiet days
- β’Migrating or auditing content from retired Slack workspaces
How to View a Slack Export
- Request your Slack export: In Slack, go to Workspace Settings then Import/Export Data (admin) or Settings, Privacy, Export your data (member), then download the ZIP when the email arrives.
- Paste the JSON files: Unzip the archive, open any file from the channels folder (plus users.json if present), select all, and paste the contents into the input box. You can paste several files at once.
- Explore the dashboard: Review message counts per channel, the most active members, and the daily activity chart to understand where conversations happened.
- Search and export: Use the search box to filter messages by keyword, person, or channel, then copy the filtered list as text or download it as JSON for later analysis.
Key Features
- Parses channels/*.json, users.json, NDJSON, and nested single-file dumps in one paste
- Searchable message list with thread badges, reactions, and file attachment counts
- Per-channel and per-member activity rankings with bar chart breakdowns
- Daily activity chart covering the most recent 30 days of the export
- User ID to display name resolution when users.json is included
- Copy filtered results as text or download pretty-printed JSON, all offline
