Where do I put the generated snippet file?

Download the .code-snippets file into the .vscode folder of your workspace for project-scoped snippets, or use File > Preferences > Configure User Snippets to place it in your user snippets folder for global access.

Why are dollar signs in my code being changed?

VS Code treats $ and backslash as snippet syntax. The auto-escape option writes them as escaped literals so template literals, regexes, and shell code stay exactly as you pasted them. Turn it off only when you intentionally typed tabstops.

What does the scope field do?

Scope limits the snippet to specific languages, for example typescript,javascript or python. Leave it empty and the snippet is available in every language.
