What is Golf Handicap Calculator?
The Golf Handicap Calculator turns your scorecards into a World Handicap System Handicap Index. It computes a Score Differential for each round from the course Slope Rating and Course Rating, picks the lowest Score Differentials using the Rule 5.2a table for records of 3 to 20 scores, applies the Rule 5.2a adjustment, then applies the Rule 5.8 soft cap and hard cap against your Low Handicap Index and the 54.0 maximum. It also caps each hole at net double bogey to build an Adjusted Gross Score, and converts a Handicap Index into a Course Handicap.

How to Calculate a Golf Handicap with the WHS
- Enter your recent rounds: Type the Course Rating, Slope Rating and Adjusted Gross Score of up to 20 recent rounds, newest first. Only the most recent 20 rounds are ever used, so if you play more, drop the oldest.
- Check each Score Differential: The table shows the Score Differential for every round: 113 divided by the Slope Rating, multiplied by the Adjusted Gross Score minus the Course Rating, rounded to one decimal place. Rows marked as used are the lowest ones that went into the average.
- Add your Low Handicap Index: Optional, but without it no cap can be applied. Enter your lowest Handicap Index from the 365 days before your most recent score, and the soft cap and hard cap are measured against it.
- Read the Handicap Index: The result panel reports how many Score Differentials were averaged, the Rule 5.2a adjustment, the value before caps and any cap that fired, ending at the 54.0 maximum.
- Build an Adjusted Gross Score: In the AGS helper, enter your Course Handicap plus the par, stroke index and gross score of all 18 holes. Any hole above net double bogey is trimmed, and the total becomes the AGS you type into the rounds table.
- Convert to a Course Handicap: Use the Course Handicap converter with the Slope Rating, Course Rating and Par of the course you are about to play.
